FC 27 Max 86 Base Hero Upgrade SBC: should you do it, how to hit the 85,000 score with fodder you can't sell, and how Hero chemistry works.
Correct as of 8 Oct 2026, 10:15 BST (Europe/London)
FC 27's first Hero upgrade SBC is live, and it's a gamble: one try, one Hero, and you choose how much fodder to throw at it. Here's what it costs, who should do it, and how to fill it without buying the lot. New to score-based SBCs? Start with Streamlined SBCs and Item Score.
Quick answer: should you do the Max 86 Base Hero Upgrade?
Is the FC 27 Max 86 Base Hero Upgrade SBC worth it, and what does it cost?
Do it if you can cover most of the 85,000 score with untradeable fodder you can't sell anyway. Think twice if you'd be buying most of it. The SBC gives one pack with one Base Hero rated 86 or lower, the Hero is untradeable, and you only get one go. FUTWIZ lists it as expiring on Wednesday 14 October at 18:00 BST.

Community reporting says each item you submit must be 45 OVR or higher. [CONFIRM IN GAME: minimum item OVR on the SBC tile.]
Do it if…
- You've got a stack of untradeable cards from Destined for Glory, the TOTW Upgrade SBC, carryover packs or Foundations that you'll never use.
- You want a Hero for chemistry. A Hero gets full chemistry in position, which makes squads easier to link (more on that below).
- You're building Gallery Sets. EA says Heroes are one of the ways to upgrade a Set.
Skip it if…
- You'd have to buy most of the fodder. The live cost on FUTWIZ is what you'd be gambling, and you can't sell the Hero to get it back.
- You need that fodder for Future Stars SBCs from Friday 9 October or for Player of the Month SBCs. See the Future Stars prep hub.
- You only want one specific Hero. You can't choose which one you get.
How the 85,000 score target works
Streamlined SBCs in 60 seconds (EA)
EA's FUT Deep Dive explains that in a Streamlined SBC, you pick eligible items from your Club and each one adds to a score. Your progress builds until you reach the target. You can submit more than one version of the same item, including duplicates.
What gives an item its score (EA)
EA's Launch Update Pitch Notes say every Player Item has an Item Score based on its OVR, Rarity and Holographic status. Each OVR has a base score, and the Rarity and Holographic bonuses stack. That's why a special untradeable at a modest OVR can count for more than a plain Gold with the same rating. The same scoring is used for Gallery. For how the scoring fits together, see Streamlined SBCs and Item Score. We don't print per-OVR score values because EA hasn't published them.
Do it in stages (EA)
Streamlined SBCs save partial progress. EA says you can submit some items, make progress towards the target and come back later to finish it. So you can chip away at the 85,000 across the week as fodder comes in. Just finish before Wednesday 14 October at 18:00 BST.
Cheapest way to fill it
Use your untradeables first
The cards you can't sell are the ones to burn. Before you buy anything, go through your Club for:
- leftover Destined for Glory and TOTW Upgrade pulls you won't play
- carryover pack and Foundations spares
- duplicates in your SBC storage (EA confirms they count)
Protect the cards you still need
Partial submissions make it easy to throw cards in without thinking. Before you confirm, set aside anything you need for:
- Future Stars SBCs, expected from Friday 9 October
- Player of the Month SBCs; see the September POTM SBCs hub
- Evolutions you're planning. EA says cards in an Evolution that's still running can't go into SBCs anyway.
EA has said players have asked for a way to mark or favourite cards so they aren't submitted by accident, but there's no such feature yet. So double-check the selection screen before you hit submit.
If you have to buy
Check the live cost estimate on FUTWIZ SBCs first, then price fodder on Lowest Price Ratings. The cost moves with the market, so we don't quote a coin figure here. For other SBCs worth your fodder this week, see the SBC solutions hub.
What's in the pack
The pool's shape
The pack gives one Base Hero rated 86 or lower. Community reporting lists roughly three dozen possible Heroes, mostly 86s with a handful of 85s, and only a few standout pulls. Most outcomes are the less sought-after Heroes, which is why it's described as a gamble.
We're not printing a full list because EA hasn't published one. Preview the pack in-game before you submit: the SBC screen shows what's in it. [CONFIRM IN GAME: pool contents in the pack preview.]
Before you decide
No one outside EA knows the pack odds, and we don't publish guesses. Look at it this way: if the fodder cost you nothing, a less sought-after Hero is still a free Hero. If it cost you coins, you're betting those coins on one of the few big names.
Why a Hero is useful in FC 27 (EA chemistry rules)
Full chemistry in position
EA's Launch Update says Heroes get full Chemistry when played in position. In FC 27, a Hero's League contribution drops from +2 to +1, and its Nation contribution stays at +1. So a Hero still links a squad together, just a little less than last year. Test where yours fits in the FUTWIZ Squad Builder.
Heroes, ICONs and Hall of FUT
EA describes Heroes as players remembered for unforgettable moments, celebrated club or league spells and the impact they made on fans. ICONs are a separate, higher tier: Base ICONs now start at 88 OVR, which is why this pack tops out at 86. Hall of FUT items follow the same Chemistry rules as Heroes.
Gallery
EA's FUT Deep Dive says you can upgrade Gallery Sets over time with Campaign items, Heroes, ICONs or Holographic versions. So a Hero you pack can help a Set too. See Gallery Tokens.
