The Base Hero Upgrade is back, with a higher cap, a much higher score target and, this time, repeats. Here's what changed from the Max 86 version, how the repeat works, and who should do it. New to score-based SBCs? Start with Streamlined SBCs and Item Score.

Quick answer: worth it with untradeable fodder, a gamble if you're buying

Is the FC 27 Max 87 Base Hero Upgrade SBC worth it, and can you do it more than once?

It's worth doing if you can cover most of the 115,000 score with untradeable fodder you can't sell anyway. If you'd be buying most of it, think twice: the pack gives one random Base Hero rated 87 or lower, and the Hero is untradeable. FUTWIZ tags it repeatable, so you can go again, but every repeat is the same random draw. FUTWIZ's data shows it ending on Sunday 25 October at 18:00 GMT.

UK clocks go back on the morning of Sunday 25 October, which is why the end time is in GMT. The countdown on the tile is the final word. Community reporting says each item you submit must be 45 OVR or higher; check the tile.

The target is about a third higher for one more point on the cap. The other big change is the repeat. Our Max 86 Base Hero guide covers the first version, which has now ended.

How the repeat works

FUTWIZ tags this SBC repeatable, and its data lists a three-day refresh interval. Community reporting says you can complete it once per refresh. So you may get more than one go over its window, but not unlimited ones. The game decides, so check the tile for how many times you can do it and when it next refreshes.

Every repeat is a fresh, random draw from the same pack. Doing it three times doesn't make the Hero you want more likely on any single try. It just gives you more tries, each paid for with another 115,000 of fodder.

How the 115,000 score target works

Streamlined SBCs in 60 seconds (EA)

EA's FUT Deep Dive explains that in a Streamlined SBC, you pick eligible items from your Club and each one adds to a score. Your progress builds until you reach the target. You can submit more than one version of the same item, including duplicates.

What gives an item its score (EA)

EA's Launch Update Pitch Notes say every Player Item has an Item Score based on its OVR, Rarity and Holographic status. Each OVR has a base score, and the Rarity and Holographic bonuses stack. That's why a special-rarity card at a modest OVR can count for more than a plain Gold with the same rating.

Do it in stages (EA)

Streamlined SBCs save partial progress. You can submit some items, make progress and come back later to finish. So you can chip away at the 115,000 as fodder comes in. Just finish before the SBC ends.

Who should do it

Do it if…

  • You've got a stack of untradeable cards from campaigns, untradeable picks or upgrade packs that you'll never use.
  • You want a Hero for chemistry. A Hero gets full chemistry in position (more on that below).
  • You're building Gallery Sets. EA says Heroes are one of the ways to upgrade a Set.

Think twice about repeating it if…

  • You'd be buying the fodder. Each repeat costs another 115,000 of score, and you can't sell the Hero to get anything back.

Skip it, or wait, if…

  • You need that fodder for this week's Future Stars SBCs. Cora Zicai ends on Thursday 22 October, Johan Manzambi on Friday 23 October and the Liga Portugal Future Stars Player Pick on Saturday 24 October, all at 18:00 BST. Assane Diao ends on Sunday 25 October at 18:00 GMT (all FUTWIZ). Fodder spent here can't go there. See the Future Stars Team 2 hub.
  • You only want one specific Hero. You can't choose which one you get.

Cheapest way to fill it

Use your untradeables first

The cards you can't sell are the ones to burn. Before you buy anything, go through your Club for:

  • leftover campaign rewards and upgrade pack pulls you won't play
  • untradeable picks, including the repeatable 1 of 3 79+ Gold Player Pick from the same drop, if you're doing it anyway
  • duplicates in your SBC storage (EA confirms they count)

Protect the cards you still need

Partial submissions make it easy to throw cards in without thinking. Before you confirm, set aside anything you need for the Future Stars SBCs above and for any Evolutions you're planning. EA says cards in an Evolution that's still running can't go into SBCs anyway.

If you have to buy

Check the live cost estimate on FUTWIZ SBCs first, then price fodder on Lowest Price Ratings. The cost moves with the market, so we don't quote a coin figure here. For other SBCs worth your fodder this week, see the SBC solutions hub.

What's in the pack

The in-game description says the pack has one Base Hero rated 87 or lower. Neither EA nor FUTWIZ lists the full pool, and we don't publish guesses at the list or the odds. If the game lets you preview the pack on the tile, check it before you submit.

Look at it this way: if the fodder cost you nothing, any Hero is a free Hero. If it cost you coins, you're betting those coins on one of the names you actually want.

Why a Hero is useful in FC 27 (EA chemistry rules)

Full chemistry in position

EA's Launch Update says Heroes get full Chemistry when played in position. In FC 27, a Hero's League contribution halves, from +2 to +1, and its Nation contribution stays at +1. So a Hero still links a squad together, just a little less than last year. Test where yours fits in the FUTWIZ Squad Builder, and look up the Heroes on FUTWIZ Players.

Heroes, ICONs and Hall of FUT

Base ICONs start at 88 OVR (EA), which is why this pack tops out at 87. Hall of FUT items follow the same Chemistry rules as Heroes.

EA's FUT Deep Dive says you can upgrade Gallery Sets over time with Campaign items, Heroes, ICONs or Holographic versions. So a Hero you pack can help a Set too.
