A how-to for the Goal Guardian Evolution: who can go in, what each level asks for, and how Level 2's two paths differ. New to Evos? Start with the Intro Evolutions guide. We don't print full stat lines or prices here; the full upgrade table is on the FUTWIZ Goal Guardian page.

Quick answer: a free GK Evolution with two Level 2 paths

What is the FC 27 Goal Guardian Evolution, who can use it, and how is it different from Trust the Keeper?

Goal Guardian is an Evolution for goalkeepers (GK). FUTWIZ describes it as refining a keeper built to command the penalty area. You play through two levels, and at Level 2 you choose one of two paths. Level 1 asks for two matches; Level 2 asks for one match, so you can finish it in three matches across Squad Battles, Rivals, Champions or Live Events.

Time left (5 Oct)About a week to start it, about two weeks to finishFUTWIZ hub timers

Community reporting says it went live on Monday 5 October at 18:00 BST, with a window of about 17 days. At launch, community reporting put the start-by deadline at Thursday 15 October, 18:00 BST and the expiry at Thursday 22 October, 18:00 BST. At launch, community trackers also listed it as free. Check the Evolution tile to be sure.

Not Trust the Keeper

Trust the Keeper is a different goalkeeper Evolution. Community reporting frames it as a separate, lower-cap GK path. Don't mix the two up: check each Evolution's requirements on the FUTWIZ Evolutions hub before you pick a card. This guide covers Goal Guardian only.

Who can go in

The requirements

FUTWIZ lists three requirements for Goal Guardian:

  • Overall: 79 or lower
  • Position: GK
  • PlayStyles: 7 or fewer

The PlayStyles cap is the one that catches people out. A keeper who already has lots of PlayStyles may not fit, even if the Overall is fine.

Finding an eligible card

Open the Goal Guardian page on FUTWIZ to see the requirements and the eligible-player search together. Then look the card up on FUTWIZ Players and drop it into the Squad Builder to see where it fits. The game's Evolution screen only offers eligible cards from your club, so it's the final check.

Level by level

What counts towards each level

FUTWIZ lists these objectives (exact wording):

  • Level 1: play 2 matches in Squad Battles on at least Semi-Pro difficulty, or in Rivals, Champions or Live Events, using your active Evolution player.
  • Level 2: play 1 match in Squad Battles on at least Semi-Pro difficulty, or in Rivals, Champions or Live Events, using your active Evolution player.

Rush is not named in either FUTWIZ string. EA hasn't said whether Rush or Flash Rush still counts here, so if you're relying on Rush, check the Evolution's progress after your first match. Live Events count on the FUTWIZ wording. EA hasn't said whether the Ultimate Gauntlet and the Destined for Glory Exhibition count as Live Events for this Evolution, so check progress after the first match if you're relying on them.

Start your Evolution keeper in every match. EA hasn't said whether they need to stay on for the whole match, so to be safe, don't sub them off.

Level 1

Level 1 brings +5 Overall (FUTWIZ shows a cap of 80), along with other GK boosts. The exact attribute amounts are on the FUTWIZ Goal Guardian page, so we won't repeat them here.

Level 2: choose your path

At Level 2, you choose one of two options. Both are framed as a pathway on FUTWIZ, and each option also adds a PlayStyle. At launch, community trackers listed Option 1 with 1v1 Close Down and Option 2 with Deflector.

We haven't printed the full Level 2 attribute split here, because some icons on the FUTWIZ page didn't parse cleanly. Compare both finished versions side by side on the Goal Guardian page before you lock one in.

How to choose: pick the option that matches how you want the keeper to play, then check the PlayStyle on the Level 2 screen — it may matter more to you than the attribute focus.

Finishing it in three matches

Three matches is a short grind. Put the Evolution keeper in your Rivals or Champions team and let those matches count, or run Squad Battles on Semi-Pro if you want the lowest-pressure route.

Activate it before the start-by deadline, even if you won't play straight away. FUTWIZ showed about a week left to start it on 5 October.

How this fits Destined for Glory

EA says Destined for Glory brings free Evolutions over two weeks, including one Training Camp Evolution each week, plus an earnable Evolution consumable in Ultimate Gauntlet that gives you an extra repeat of an existing Evolution (Destined for Glory). EA's page doesn't name Goal Guardian, so we can't say officially whether it's one of the campaign's free Evolutions. Community reporting lists it as free and live now — confirm the cost on the tile.

For the Training Camp Evolution and the Gauntlet consumable, see the DFG Week 2 hub. For the new campaign cards, see the Team 2 live hub and the DFG Tracker.

FAQ

Is Goal Guardian free?

Community reporting lists it as free. We didn't see an explicit Free label on the FUTWIZ Goal Guardian HTML when we checked on 5 October, so confirm the cost on the Evolution tile before you plan around it.

Which positions are eligible?

GK only, with an Overall of 79 or lower and no more than 7 PlayStyles, per FUTWIZ.

How is this different from Trust the Keeper?

They're separate goalkeeper Evolutions. Community reporting frames Trust the Keeper as a lower-cap GK path. Check both requirement sets on FUTWIZ before you commit a card.

How many levels are there?

Two. Level 1 asks for two matches; Level 2 asks for one match and has a choice of two paths.

Does Rush count?

FUTWIZ's objective text does not name Rush for Goal Guardian (it lists Squad Battles, Rivals, Champions and Live Events). EA hasn't said whether Rush still counts, so check your Evolution progress after a Rush match if you use that route.

Does EA name this Evolution on the Destined for Glory page?

No. EA's page mentions free Evolutions and a Training Camp Evolution each week, but doesn't name Goal Guardian.

Sources

Requirements, levels, objectives and the Level 1 Overall +5 come from FUTWIZ's Evolution pages. Cost, go-live time and window come from community reporting, so check the cost and deadlines on the in-game tile. EA hasn't named this Evolution in a public post. We haven't included full GK attribute lines, PlayStyle names or prices.
