A how-to for the free Zoomaestro Evolution: who can go in, what your playmaker comes out as, and how to pick one. It takes a CAM or CM rated 80 or lower up to 83 OVR over at least five matches, adds a fourth skill star and boosts pace and dribbling. The full upgrade table and eligible-player list are on the FUTWIZ Zoomaestro page; we don't print prices here.

Quick answer: a free upgrade to 83 for slower, technical midfielders

What is the FC 27 Zoomaestro Evolution, who can use it, and what does it give?

Zoomaestro is a free Evolution for CAM and CM cards rated 80 or lower with 75 Pace or less, 74 Defending or less and 3★ skill moves or fewer. It has three levels: play two matches, play two more, then win one. It takes the card up to 83 OVR, adds +1 skill star (up to 4★), and boosts Acceleration, Sprint Speed, dribbling and passing. The Overall jump and the extra skill star both come at Level 1.

Start byWednesday 28 October, 18:00 GMT (FUTWIZ data)FUTWIZ

It appeared in FUTWIZ's Daily Content for Monday 19 October, from Sunday's 18:00 BST drop. FUTWIZ's hub showed about a week to start it and about two weeks before it expires, and its data points to a start-by deadline of Wednesday 28 October at 18:00 GMT. UK clocks go back on Sunday 25 October, which is why that time is in GMT. Check the Evolution tile in game for the exact deadlines.

Who can go in

The requirements

FUTWIZ lists six requirements for Zoomaestro:

  • Overall: 80 or lower
  • Position: CAM or CM
  • Pace: 75 or lower
  • Defending: 74 or lower
  • Skill moves: 3★ or fewer
  • PlayStyles: 7 or fewer

The in-game description, as shown on FUTWIZ: "Your playmaker always had the vision, now they get the legs. Boost pace and dribbling on your CAM or CM and glide past defenders in a blink." It's built for the slow, technical playmaker who sees the pass but can't get away from anyone.

Main position or alternate?

FUTWIZ's eligible list includes main-position CAMs and CMs, but also cards listed as CDM, RM, LM, ST or RB that have CAM or CM as an alternate position. That suggests an alternate CAM or CM counts. Check that the game offers your card on the Evolution screen before you plan around it.

What your playmaker becomes

Every level's upgrades

Each level asks you to play with the Evo player in your active squad, in Squad Battles on Semi-Pro or above, or in Rush, Rivals, Champions or Live Events. FUTWIZ's upgrade table, with the cap for each in brackets:

LevelUpgrades (cap)Task
Level 1Overall +7 (83), Skill Moves +1 (4★), PlayStyle (cap 3), Positioning +5 (84), Short Passing +10 (85), Balance +7 (82), Dribbling +10 (83)Play 2 matches
Level 2PlayStyle (cap 3), Acceleration +10 (83), Long Shots +5 (83), Curve +5 (81), Reactions +7 (82), Composure +10 (81)Play 2 matches
Level 3PlayStyle (cap 3), Sprint Speed +10 (83), Vision +10 (82), Agility +7 (85), Ball Control +10 (85), Stamina +5 (84)Win 1 match

The 83 OVR and the fourth skill star land at Level 1, so your midfielder plays at its new rating after two matches. The pace comes later: Acceleration at Level 2 and Sprint Speed at Level 3. So the full "legs" upgrade needs the Level 3 win.

Level 3 asks for a win, not just a match. Five matches is the minimum, and it can take more if you lose a few at the last level.

What's capped

Our reading of FUTWIZ's table is that each boost is up to the number shown and stops at the cap. We haven't confirmed that in game, so preview your card on the Evolution screen before you start.

  • Overall stops at 83. A 76 or lower gets the full +7, while an 80 gains only 3.
  • Acceleration and Sprint Speed go up by up to +10, capped at 83. A very slow card gets the full +10 but won't reach 83, so this makes a slow playmaker usable, not rapid.
  • Skill moves go up by one star, to a maximum of 4★. Every eligible card starts at 3★ or fewer.
  • Every other boost stops at its own cap, from 81 (Curve, Composure) to 85 (Short Passing, Agility, Ball Control).

The PlayStyles

FUTWIZ shows a PlayStyle line on all three levels, each with a cap of 3, but doesn't name them. It also doesn't say whether that means three different PlayStyles or one repeated listing. We haven't seen them named anywhere official yet, so check each level's screen in game. If your card already has three or more PlayStyles, those screens also show what it actually gains.

How to pick a player

What to look for

We don't rank cards with prices or meta scores. Here's a simple way to pick:

  1. Chemistry first. Pick a CAM or CM who fits your league or nation links and will actually start.
  2. How low is the base card? The Overall cap is 83, so a 76 gains 7 while an 80 gains only 3.
  3. How slow is it? Slow cards get the full +10 to Acceleration and Sprint Speed. That's the whole point of this Evo.
  4. Passing and dribbling. Short Passing, Ball Control and Dribbling all go up to 83–85, so a card that's already a tidy passer ends up a well-rounded 83.
  5. Existing PlayStyles. Check the base card on FUTWIZ Players. A card with lots of PlayStyles may get less from the three PlayStyle lines.

Test the card in the Squad Builder before you start.

Example eligible midfielders (FUTWIZ, 19 October)

These cards were on FUTWIZ's Zoomaestro eligible list on 19 October. The first eight are main-position CAMs and CMs; the last two have CM as an alternate position:

LohmannRM (alt CM)797276797970803★3★

They're examples, not a ranking. Muller is the slowest here at 57 PAC, so he gets the most from the pace boosts, but at 80 OVR he gains only 3 Overall. Oliver Torres, Sergi Darder and Mount start at 78, so they gain 5 Overall and are already good passers. Boe Risa and Mayulu are on the 75 Pace limit, so they'll gain less there. Miyazawa sits exactly on the 74 Defending limit. For the alternate-position cards, check the game offers them before you plan around them. Use the league and nation filters on the FUTWIZ Zoomaestro page to find a playmaker who fits your squad.

Can you run more than one?

FUTWIZ doesn't say whether Zoomaestro is repeatable, so plan on one midfielder and check the Evolution screen in game.

After Middle Management?

On paper, a midfielder who finishes the free Middle Management Evo ends at 80 OVR, which is Zoomaestro's Overall limit. But FUTWIZ's data only partly supports running one after the other:

  • Middle Management raises Interceptions, Standing Tackle, Def. Awareness and Slide Tackle to 76–77, which could push the card's Defending past Zoomaestro's 74 limit.
  • Its pace caps are 75. On our reading, a card that started above 75 Pace keeps its own value, so it won't qualify.
  • Middle Management takes CDMs as well as CMs, but Zoomaestro only lists CAM and CM. Every card on FUTWIZ's Zoomaestro eligible list has CAM or CM as its main or alternate position, so a card that plays only CDM can't go in.
  • FUTWIZ doesn't show whether a card that's already been through an Evo can enter Zoomaestro.

So don't plan a Middle Management card into Zoomaestro until the game offers it on the Evolution screen. Middle Management's start-by is tighter too: FUTWIZ's data points to Thursday 22 October at 18:00 BST. Our Middle Management guide covers it in full.

Rules that catch people out

  • No SBCs mid-Evo. While a player is in an Evolution, EA Help says you can't use them in SBCs. Don't put a midfielder you might need for an SBC into Zoomaestro.
  • Two clocks. Every Evo has a deadline to start it and a later deadline to finish it (EA Help).
  • Active squad only. FUTWIZ's tasks say matches only count with the Evo player in your active squad.

Also live now

  • Heart of the Pitch: a Flash Rush event with untradeable rewards, including a 4x 83+ Gold Players Pack. FUTWIZ's data shows it running until Wednesday 21 October at 17:59 BST. We haven't confirmed whether Flash Rush matches count towards Zoomaestro, so check the Evo task before you rely on them.
  • Future Stars Assane Diao: a one-challenge player SBC for an untradeable 84-rated Future Stars Diao (RM). FUTWIZ's data shows it ending on Sunday 25 October at 18:00 GMT. See our Future Stars Team 2 hub for the rest of the promo.
