Hello and welcome to my WSL Team of the Season so far for 2025/26. The Women’s Super League has been an absolute rollercoaster this year, with Manchester City pulling ahead at the top thanks to their ruthless attack and tactical shift, Chelsea and Arsenal locked in a fierce battle for the runners-up spots, and Manchester United holding firm in fourth to keep Champions League hopes alive. Mid-table outfits like Aston Villa have caused upsets with individual brilliance, while Liverpool and Tottenham have shown real grit in the relegation scrap. What stands out most is how this season has rewarded consistency across the board—clinical strikers who feast on chances, midfield maestros dictating tempo, and defenders who contribute at both ends.

Up top, the numbers tell a clear story. Khadija Shaw has been untouchable for City, topping the scoring charts with her power and hold-up play that unlocks entire defenses, while Alessia Russo has been Arsenal’s reliable finisher. Vivianne Miedema brings that intelligent link-up and poacher’s instinct now thriving at City, Kirsty Hanson has emerged as Aston Villa’s surprise top scorer outside the big three, and Jessica Park has been Man United’s consistent wide threat with double-digit contributions. Olivia Smith has hit the ground running in her first Arsenal season, Chloe Kelly thrives under pressure for Arsenal off the bench, and Ella Toone remains United’s versatile game-changer.

Midfield has been the heartbeat of the league, blending creativity with steel. Mariona Caldentey has been Arsenal’s orchestrator, creating chances and chipping in goals from deep, Keira Walsh anchors Chelsea with her precise passing and control, and Yui Hasegawa sets the tempo for City’s high-flying campaign. Aoba Fujino has burst onto the scene for City as an emerging playmaker with vision and end product. These players haven’t just filled spaces—they’ve elevated their teams’ styles, turning good sides into great ones.

Defensively, the elite have set the tone. Hannah Hampton has been Chelsea’s wall in goal, making clutch saves, Emily Fox provides Arsenal with tireless right-back runs, Millie Bright leads Chelsea’s line with authority, and Maya Le Tissier has been Man United’s tackling powerhouse. Kerstin Casparij shines as City’s attacking right-back with crosses and assists, while Katie McCabe brings leadership and solidity at left-back for Arsenal. It’s a backline built for both shutting down threats and launching attacks.

Chelsea and Arsenal edge the representation as perennial contenders, but Man City, Man United, and Aston Villa get strong nods for their standout performers. Here’s the definitive 18-player squad.
