FC 25 Winter Update Explained

We’re now over 2 months into EA Sports FC 25 and currently midway through the Thunderstruck promo. As we approach Christmas, the First Frost Update (Title Update 6) is set to arrive in the game, with big changes and game-altering new additions coming soon. As this is right around the corner, we’re going to expand on some of the most important changes coming in the First Frost Update and explain how they will alter your FC 25 journey.

“Added the Classic 10 and Wide Half Player Roles, as well as thirteen Focuses.”

This is a big new addition as these are the first new Player Roles to be added since the game was released. The Classic 10 and Wide Half Player Roles will bring a completely new way to play FC 25 and make the experience feel more unique to you as you will have more freedom with tactics. The Classic 10 Player Role is for CAMs with the focus options of Attack or Wide. The Wide Half is for CDMs and the role allows them to cover the sides of the pitch as well as be a helping hand in the build-up. The focus options here are Defend or Build-Up. Below is a list of all the new focuses being added:

GK- Sweeper Keeper – Build-Up

CB- Stopper – Aggressive

CB- Ball-Playing Defender – Aggressive

RB/LB – Wingback – Support

CDM – Holding – Ball-Winning

CDM – Deep-Lying Playmaker – Build-Up

CM – Holding – Ball-Winning

CM – Deep-Lying Playmaker- Build-Up

RM/LM – Wide Playmaker – Build-Up

CAM – Playmaker – Build-Up

RW/LW – Wide Playmaker – Build-Up

ST – Poacher – Support

ST – Advanced Forward – Support

“In some cases, defenders could have won the ball from behind the ball carrier easier than intended.”

For a while now, there’s been an issue in FC 25 where defenders could comfortably tackle from behind and win the ball. It made defending a lot easier than it should of and attacking harder than intended. However, this change should lessen the effectiveness of tackling from behind which is a huge positive for gameplay.

“Reduced Rush match length from 7 minutes to 5 minutes.”

Quite a big change here as Rush has been made a lot shorter. Two minutes have been taken off the game time, which means that games should finish a lot quicker. This will help get the weekly Rush objectives done quicker, as well as any other objectives that need to be completed in Rush. Also in the update, players are now more likely to be kicked from a Rush match for inactivity which is brilliant because games could become pointless if half of your team are not playing, whilst you face a full team of active players.

“The attacking team’s center backs could have pushed too far up the pitch in some cases. Sometimes, center backs could have positioned themselves too far apart while their team had possession.”

Both of these changes ultimately mean that your CBs should now be in better positions and correctly work with the tactics that you have set. This is another positive change as it means there should be fewer wide gaps in the centre of the pitch, which would have allowed your opponent to counter-attack easily, and your defenders should be in the best positions possible.

“Attacking players can now come back to an onside position quicker than before.”

It was always frustrating when one of your players was stood in an offside position for too long and they became unavailable to pass to. Now though, your player should run back onside quicker and become available to be to be part of the attack sooner.

“Improved defensive logic for tracking runs during Kick Offs.”

For a long time now, some FC 25 players could score easy goals from kick-offs by sending through a runner straight from the off and playing a through ball over the top perfectly to their attacker. Hopefully, this adjustment should prevent this and provide a fairer game. The increase in defensive logic of tracking these runs should bring a positive change.

“Addressed instances of Player Switching not functioning as intended.”

This is a simple fix and should mean that Player Switching will work as it is meant to.

“Improved referee logic when determining offside calls in situations involving the goalkeeper. Improved referee logic when determining foul calls in some tackling situations.”

The long story short here is that referee logic has had a massive overall improvement. This change should provide fairer gameplay and allow for decisions to be more conclusive and genuine.

“Improved consistency for the Stop And Turn (While Running), Roulette, Heel To Heel, and Feint and Exit Skill Moves when performed by 2 Star Skill Move players.”

Players with as low as 2-star skills should now be able to complete the above skill moves with more consistency. This should mean that these skills moves should be more effective whilst being utilised with players with 2-star skills.

We’re also actively investigating several issues we know are of concern to the community, and are working to address them in future updates. That list includes, but is not limited to:

Scoring on corners, First time Power Shots, First time Lobbed Through Passes, Jog Dribbles.”

Even though these haven’t been altered for Title Update 6, this is still good to see that these are currently being investigated with the intention of improving them in the future.

First Frost Update brings 101 Players Items to the Football Ultimate Team pool of items that will become available following a Squad Update that will come shortly after the First Frost Update.”

Some of the new players that are set to become part of Ultimate Team include David De Gea, Alexis Sanchez, Mats Hummels and many more. The addition of new players is always a good thing as this brings more unique squad-building opportunities.
