Another one, as DJ Khaled would say. This is La Liga time and it’s gonna be hard.

I wasted a lot of time on these predictions, just because there’re so many debatable players because of how league played out this year.

Let me give you a bit of a run down of a league, so you’ll understand my view better.

Barcelona winning the league and they are winning it comfortably due to genius of Messi. He carried a lot of games for them, but not only Messi performed for them. Their defense was surprisingly to me really good, but that’s because they have one of the best goalkeeper in the world.

Atletico Madrid at the moment sitting at the 2nd place. How to explain this season for Atletico: It could’ve been better. Another great season in terms of defense, but attack… attack not so good. Simeone need to create something more, because attack fails a lot of times. Griezmann still a leader of Atletico.

Then the 3rd team is Real Madrid. A season to forget for Real. They don’t have many bright points this season, but Benzema actually became a leader and carried them a lot of games.

Other than that – it’s all really close: Getafe surprised a lot of people with how well they perform this year. Usually they are in the 2nd part of the table, but now they are battling for 4th spot. Their main opponent is Valencia. Started off slowly, but then came back to form and broken club record for games without a loss. Sevilla started good too, but then dropped off. Still storming from 4th to 7th place. Alaves is kinda the same as Sevilla, but they never recovered after their fall from 4th spot and now sitting in the mid table.

A lot of average performances this year in La Liga and that’s why making this TOTS Predictions wasn’t easy.

Let’s try to make it as logical as possible.

Starting off with Goalkeepers. 2 main candidates and no alternatives for them. Jan Oblak and Marc Ander Ter-Stegen are among the best goalkeepers in the world. Both of them are so good, they often saving their teams and both should get really decent TOTS cards.

Now we move to the hardest part in my opinion: defenders. There’re 3 main candidates for me at CB, but they have around 5 alternative possibilities. In my opinion: Gerard Pique and Diego Godin should be starting CBs and Djene from Getafe should be on the bench.

Pique is a debatable choice, but he’s been really good for Barcelona. Not just only defending, but he also scored 4 goals and got himself 2 assists. Overall the best aspect of Pique’s game is his passing and it helps Barca a lot. Can be replaced by Lenglet. Barca signed amazing defender from Sevilla. He played only 20 games, but in those games, especially in El Classico (for example) he was amazing.

Diego Godin had another “Diego Godin level” of a season. He played a bit lesser amount of games this season, but no matter who is his partner (Savic, Gimenez or Lucas) he always played well. Scored 3 goals too. Can be replaced with Gimenez. Jose played not so many games, that’s why I didn’t include him in main team, but I can see him getting TOTS card and in terms of FUT he might be more desirable than Godin.

Bench CB is Djene. Missed only 2 games in the season due to a lot of yellow cards. Overall 2nd impressive season in a row. Leader of defense in Getafe and been really consistent performer.

Can be replaced by any of those players: Sergio Ramos, Guillermo Maripan, Marc Bartra.
Sergio Ramos hasn’t had a really good season. Yes, he scored a lot of goals, some of them were penalties and most of the penalties were Panenka, but in defense he wasn’t on his level. I can see him getting TOTS just because of his popularity and FUT reasons.

Guillermo Maripan playing for Alaves. He started this season really well, but then his team crumbled and fallen to mid table, still a season to remember for Maripan.

Marc Bartra. It feels like Marc been around forever, but he’s still only 28 years old. He’s living his best football life in Betis and performing well for Quique Setien’s team. A lot of Betis players will be mentioned from Betis, but Bartra is one of the highlights to me.

For a left back position I’ve chosen Jordi Alba and Jose Gaya. 2 Valencia players in the different years.

Even though people can disagree on both of them – let me try and prove you why both should be in TOTS.

Jordi Alba might be not the best defensive left back in the world, but in attack he shines. He scored 1 goal and got 8 assists to his name in La Liga and overall, when Dembele played, Alba performed amazingly well in my opinion. When Dembele is injured – Alba struggles a bit, due to Coutinho not performing in defense well.

Jose Gaya is a consistent performer in defense of Valencia. Probably their best defender in 2nd best defense of the league. Conceding only 26 goals this year (for example Barcelona conceded 31, Real 37, Atletico 21 (article was updated on : 11.04)). I feel like if any defender from Valencia will be in TOTS – it’d be Gaya.

Can be replaced by Junior Firpo. Even though Firpo is more LWB than LB, because Betis playing 3 at the back – Firpo played well in a lot of games but he played only 15 games, that’s why I excluded him. Can see him getting TOTS, but would be debatable in my opinion.

For a right-back position my main choice is Jesus Navas. Yeah, another blast from the past. Jesus actually plays RWB in Sevilla’s team and for my surprise he plays well. He might be considered as RM, but I placed him as RWB. Got himself a goal and 5 assists too.

Ruben Pena is my bench choice. He plays for Eibar and been really good this season. Eibar survived another season in La Liga and Pena is probably their best performer. 1 goal and 2 assists. Also he’s in a team because most of Right Backs in La Liga performed below their level so they aren’t featured here.

On to midfielders we go. Let’s cover wingers and then move to central positions.

For a wingers it’s kinda easy. 2 Barcelona wingers. Ousmane Dembele is my choice for left wing, he performed this season much better than last one and he’s now showing why Barca paid for him so much money. If he wasn’t injured that often – he’d be even better but still played 15 games and got 9 substitute appearances and got himself 8 goals and 4 assists. No alternative choices for this spot because for example Guedes was injured for a most part of a season and in Real Madrid – Vinicious was too inconsistent and Asensio didn’t play much.

Right winger is Leo Messi. Do I even need to explain anything? I think not.

Now the main part: Central Midfielders. Starting off with defensive minded midfielders: Casemiro, Partey. Casemiro is only 1 out of 2 Madrid players that in my eyes deserve TOTS spot. Even though Modric played really average until December and Kroos had somewhat strange season – Casemiro still showed class and because of him Madrid got a lot of points in my eyes.

Thomas Partey is debatable choice. He can easily be replaced with Rodri or Saul from Atletico, but I opted for Thomas because he’s playing his 2nd good season in a row and actually impressed me more than Saul. Rodri would get in my team as 24th player(or Partey) as a Weekly Objective player for example. Also Partey managed to get 3 goals and 3 assists. And a lot of MOTM awards.

Dani Parejo is a next choice. Best player in Valencia. Their captain and the guy who performs every game. One of the players of the season for me. 8 goals and 4 assists. One of those: 1000% lock for TOTS picks.

Pablo Sarabia is another lock for TOTS in my opinion. Played in Midfield and on the both wings for Sevilla and managed whooping 10 goals and 10 assists. One of the better players of the season (duh, that’s obvious, that’s why he’s in TOTS).

Giovanni Lo Celso. Oh, PSG, how did you let Giovanni go so easily. Performed exceptionally well in Betis in my opinion and one of the Future Stars of football in my eyes. Played a lot of different positions this season, but most of the time was CM. 7 goals and 2 assists to his name.

Santi Cazorla. Many people doubted him, many people said that he’d be only a bench player, but he became a leader of Villarreal after a lot of injuries and carrying them out of relegation. 4 goals and 8 assists, amazing performances at home vs Real Madrid and Barcelona and overall magic from Santi. What a story, Mark.

Few alternative choices: Sergio Canales, Ever Banega, Brais Mendez.

Sergio Canales resurrecting his career in Betis. Along side with Bartra. He’s still not that old and he even got a deserved callup to the national team. 7 goals and 2 assist, like Lo Celso, playing somewhat similar role. His TOTS would be deserved too.

Ever Banega is playing more defensive role in Sevilla this season and he’d interesting TOTS in FUT terms. He managed 3 goals and 3 assists and got only 1 red card this year(that’s a surprise to me, but a welcome one for sure).

Brais Mendez is one fof the youngsters in La Liga. He managed 6 goals and 7 assists in Celta team, which really struggled this season without their hero (about him a bit later), but Brais had a good season and his TOTS would be deserved.

Now, we move to the strikers:

First one in my list is Iago Aspas. Hero of Celta Vigo. If they’ll survive – there will be a monument placed for Iago somewhere in Vigo. 15 goals and 4 assists in 20 games. When he was injured for few months Celta dropped off in relegation zone, but he came back and carries them now so hard.

Christian Stuani is another hero of La Liga. Playing in Girona and scoring more than 50% of their goals. 18 goals this season and he’d be more usable this year in FUT imo.

Next up is Wissam Ben Yedder: He scored 16 goals and registered 7 assists. Awesome season from FUT-favorite, but sometimes he’s a bit inconsistent. But a lot of people would be happy with him getting TOTS.

Alternative choice: Jaime Mata. Getafe striker and leader of attack. 13 goals and 6 assists, and if I’m not wrong – he got a callup to national team too. I want Getafe to be represented by a few players in TOTS and in my opinion: Mata and Djene are the best candidates for it.

Now we move to the big guns:

Antoine Griezmann. Pick might be debatable for a few people, but without him Atletico would struggle even more in attack. 13 goals and 8 assists at the moment. Not so deserving as last few years, but I don’t think that he’ll miss out on TOTS.

Karim Benzema. Karim the dream had an awesome season. He scored 17 goals and got 5 assists and he really didn’t miss THAT much clear chances as last few years. In the past he became somewhat of a meme, but this season he proved haters wrong and many people were impressed by him.

And the last choice is Luis Suarez. He has strange season. He has a “syndrome of Lewandowski” as I call it. He might miss some obvious chances, but in the next attack will score a world class goal. Still managed to get 20 goals and 6 assists this season and of course he’ll get TOTS.

So that’s a wrap of my La Liga TOTS predictions and I understand that few people will be disappointed with few players missing, but I’ll always explain my choices on Twitter, so go ahead and message me!
