Will Bayern make history?

Bayern München could be the first team to win four straight league titles in Germany. Pep Guardiola's team had a terrific start to the season and built up an early lead in the league which they have maintained throughout, Bayern could clinch the title next weekend against Gladbach. One of the reasons is the brilliant duo Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Müller as they have combined for 46 goals in the league so far - nearly two thirds of Bayern’s Bundesliga goals. Douglas Costa’s first half of the season was too good to not include him, although the Brazilian is yet to reach that level in 2016, French winger Kingsley Coman might not offer the most spectacular numbers but he's been one of Bayern's best player on the pitch. The Bavarians also have the best defence in the league and David Alaba has had another fantastic year in Munich, Jérome Boateng was by far the best centre-back in the league until his injury but with the lack of games in 2016 I had to decide against him.

BVB's shines under Tuchel!

After the departure of Jürgen Klopp Dortmund had to find a new manager, they got a highly skilled coach in Thomas Tuchel who has transformed the pressing and counter attack machine into a beautiful allrounder. They still have a shot at the league with seven points behind Bayern with three games remaining, however that seems rather unrealistic. Many players have benefited from the managerial change, especially Henrikh Mkhitaryan - arguably the player of the season, the Armenian has been outstanding from the start. He has chipped in with 11 goals and 13 assists, many of which led to a goal of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gabonese striker has improved even more under Tuchel and has become a very sought after player. Ilkay Gündogan has been pulling the strings in the centre of the pitch for Dortmund, his magnificent performances have made him a target for several elite clubs in summer. Mats Hummels has bounced back well from an average previous year and has been a rock in defence for Tuchel's side. BVB left-back Marcel Schmelzer is making the bench after an impressive year and is still ignored by national team manager Joachim Löw. After a transfer from 2. Bundesliga team 1860 München, Julian Weigl has had a stellar ascent. The 20-year old has been the anchor in front of defence and a valuable asset in their possession football.

Youngsters, little peas and overachievers join them!

After a loan spell at Real Madrid, Manchester United decided to sell Javier “Chicharito“ Hernandez to Bayer Leverkusen and what a mistake that was, the Mexican has scored 17 goals in 26 games and his club is making a late rally to secure a Champions League spot. Bayer have a special prospect in Jonathan Tah, a consistent and mature defender for his age, who has been a constant for Roger Schmidt throughout the season. Borussia Mönchengladbach are having a bit of a rollercoaster season but Mahmoud Dahoud has had a magnificent campaign and after winning the starting job under new manager André Schubert the young midfielder has become one of the best U-20 players in Europe. His Brazilian teammate Raffael has double digits in both goals and assists, yet again a reliable player for Gladbach. Vladimir Darida and Mitchell Weiser are two of the reasons why Hertha Berlin currently 4th in the Bundesliga, both have put in consistent displays and have earned them a spot in this team, their teammate Marvin Plattenhardt has also had a great season but I've given the aforementioned Schmelzer the advantage. Schalke 04 are underachieving again and they could be even lower in the table without the incredible Ralf Fährmann, Leroy Sané was in the potential candidates but has dropped off to much in in the second half of the season, another goalkeeper who has won his team a lot of points is Hamburg's René Adler. Aytac Sulu from Darmstadt and Marvin Matip have captained their teams up to the first tier of German football and have made massive contributions towards their club's goal of staying there. Relegation is still a real possibility for Sulu's Darmstadt but he has done enough to be in the Team of the Season. FSV Mainz 05 are overachieving this season and their keeper Loris Karius has been one of the main reasons of their success. Last but not least, we have Stuttgart's Filip Kostic who's been an outstanding player in this Bundesliga season. It was between him and teammate Lukas Rupp but I've given the Serbian the last spot. I'm certain a lot of European clubs will enquire about him in summer.

This year's Bundesliga Team of the Season has been tough to pick and players like Marwin Hitz, Matthias Ginter or Granit Xhaka miss out in mine. There are many players who've just missed out but that list would be too long and I don't want to put you through that.

Hope you enjoyed!
